Mimeo Selects Aruba Networks Instant Access Points to Add Sites to Network

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

Mimeo, an online printing company, has selected Aruba's Instant access points as it expands its wireless infrastructure – by connecting two manufacturing plants to its network. With the new product, Mimeo can connect manufacturing plants in Hayward, Calif. and Cambridge, UK to its existing locations in Newark, N.J. and Memphis, Tenn.

Mimeo selected Aruba Instant IAP-105s to offer wireless access to the two new plants. Mimeo runs its entire production facility on the wireless network in Cambridge. Desktop and handheld devices, including PCs and Apple (News - Alert) iPod Touches and iPads, all need to be connected to the company’s network.

“The Aruba Instant APs made it cost-effective for me to bring these two facilities online with all of the features required to mimic our existing wireless infrastructure,” Shawn Winters, director of IT Operations at Mimeo, explained in a company press release.  ”Beyond the cost, the most important criteria for me were: security, simplicity and ease of management and the Aruba Instant IAPs delivered. I was able to train non-network experts on setting up a new network with the Instant IAPs in just five minutes.”

In Britain, Aruba has three separate buildings situated adjacently, with each one about 30,000 square feet. “We've been able to use one or two Aruba Instant APs to cover the entire facility,” Winters said. “I've been thoroughly impressed with the signal coverage.”

Last November, Aruba announced two new APs, the Aruba Instant IAP-134 and Instant IAP-135. They feature 3x3 MIMO and operate at a maximum throughput of 900 Mbps.

“We have continued to innovate and expand the Instant line – most notably, with the addition of the Instant IAPs 134 and 135 – to give our customers the best possible combination of enterprise features, affordability and ease of use,” Ben Gibson (News - Alert), chief marketing officer, Aruba, said in the press release.

In related company news, Aruba Networks has introduced Aruba ClearPass, an access management system which automates secure provisioning of mobile devices on any enterprise network, according to a statement carried on TMCnet.
