SDL, provider of global information management solutions, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, one of the oldest airlines in the world, have teamed up to launch an innovative platform on KLM.com.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has been a customer of SDL for nearly 10 years and when it came to creating a rich-media website that can be used across multiple channels; they turned to SDL Media Manager.
“KLM's new experience platform is spectacular and we're thrilled the company has chosen SDL Media Manager to execute its vision of taking customer experience management to a new level,” said Jan Jaap Kolleman, chief executive officer of the Web Content Management Solutions division at SDL. “With SDL's powerful multilingual and multimedia capabilities, we're confident in KLM's ability to deliver its customers the most dynamic brand experience possible.”
SDL Media Manager allows enterprises to take advantage of video as a key marketing tool and is specifically designed to cater to the largest possible audience, regardless of the viewer’s medium.
The program also offers in-screen and player-related media applications so companies can brand and enrich their video content, expand commercial possibilities, interact with their audience and save on production and post-production costs.
The new experience platform, KLM.com, features images, sounds and more than 30 videos and interactive elements. In addition, every component of the interactive platform can be shared through social media.
According to the release, the videos preview on-board services such as meals and wine selections, show behind-the-scenes footage of how KLM designed everything from the dinnerware to the entertainment options and narrate the company history in a modern and engaging medium.
“The greatest challenge presented by the use of rich media was to fully embed the content in KLM.com, translate the videos and content into no fewer than 18 languages and render it suitable for different types of web browsers and devices,” said Rob Zwerink, director of E-Development at KLM. “This solution is easy to manage and to reuse over all our different online touchpoints, including mobile and social media.”
The new site is part of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines’ fast growing move towards integrating social media with air travel.
In other news from December 2011, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines introduced an innovative online platform on KLM.com, in which videos, audio and images encourage visitors to experience KLM products and services. Uniquely, interactive triggers allow users to “zoom” to the experience layer without leaving the page. The interactive platform was conceived by Tribal DDB Amsterdam and developed by KLM IT Development.
