Acme Packet, BroadSoft Jointly Develop IMS Xpress for IP Multimedia Subsystems

By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor

To offer a lower cost and less complex IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) solution alternative, session delivery networks developer Acme Packet (News - Alert) has collaborated with communications applications provider BroadSoft Inc. to jointly develop a simplified solution for IMS application, the IMS Xpress.

According to the partners, IMS Xpress brings together the power of Acme Packet’s Net-Net SIP Multimedia-Xpress (SMX) solution and BroadSoft’s (News - Alert) BroadWorks communications application solution. It is designed to provide a pre-integrated, interoperable solution that reduces IMS architecture complexity and simplifies and accelerates deployments. In addition, it easily scales to support mass-market subscriber quantities and includes an extensive range of communications services. Plus, it offers a lower total cost of ownership, said the two collaborators.

Acme packet said that IMS Xpress leverages years of collective experience delivering field-proven, industry-leading solutions to the world’s largest service providers.  Plus, it is IMS standards compliant and goes beyond technology integration to include joint business processes for product design, implementation and support.

In a statement, Andy Ory, chief executive officer at Acme Packet said, “Service providers are looking to build revenue generating applications using the IMS architecture, but many IMS solutions have been too complicated and costly to operate.Through our joint solution with BroadSoft, IMS Xpress includes a fully-interoperable service that allows for rapid deployment of new services in a cost effective manner.”

Similarly, BroadSoft’s CEO Michael Tessler commented, “For more than a decade, we have been singularly focused on enabling the delivery of modern communications services over IP networks, continuously innovating to ensure our service provider customers can offer the most demanded services, which increasingly include VoLTE, RCS and a broad range of Unified Communications (News - Alert) services. Together with Acme Packet, we are enabling service providers to leverage the power of IMS without the costs and complexity of today’s solutions.”
