By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

MomentFeed – a location-analytics service – has raised $1.2 million in seed money.

Investors who took part in the funding round were: DFJ Frontier, DFJ JAIC, Factual founder Gil Elbaz, Rapleaf founder Auren Hoffman (News - Alert), and Walter Kortschak.

The Los Angeles-based startup company offers a location-based marketing dashboard, according to TechCrunch.

It is targeted at businesses with more than one location, TechCrunch adds.

MomentFeed analyzes merchant location data from sites such as Foursquare, Facebook (News - Alert), Twitter and Gowalla.

MomentFeed offers something called a Location Engagement Analytics (LEA) platform. It lets brands monitor and manage customer data.

It also identifies trends where consumers are checking-in and why they are doing it, according to the company’s website.

The platform is now available in a beta version. It is designed for businesses with over 20 locations which have high customer traffic, the company said. Examples are restaurants, bars, retail chains, hotels, grocery stores, entertainment venues, and financial service firms, the company adds.

The platform also lets retailers monitor campaign performance and return on investment. It also lets retailers compare success against competitors.

MomentFeed provides services, such as analytics, campaign management, and CRM, TechCrunch said. The costs of the services vary from $29 to $99 a year for each location, TechCrunch adds.

MomentFeed CEO Rob Reed said he expects to share revenue with each location service.

“We are happy to share revenues with Foursquare (News - Alert) and others for the data,” Reed told TechCrunch.

In other recent news about Factual, the open data platform and web service, has partnered with Home Junction and Booyah (News - Alert) to contribute to their new local datasets, according to a report carried on TMCnet.
