New York Times Tech Guru David Pogue and Wife Arrested After Domestic Dispute

By Tammy Wolf, TMCnet Web Editor

New York Times standout tech writer David Pogue and his wife were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Monday at their Westport, Conn., home following a “domestic dispute… that police said turned physical,” according to The Hour newspaper.

Police were called to the couple’s Woody Lane home Monday night after police say Pogue’s wife, Jennifer, stopped by the house to pick up their children for visitation time. David Pogue, also a Missing Manual publisher and Emmy award-winning CBS News correspondent, and his wife are reportedly in the middle of a messy divorce and have a set custody arrangement for their three children, according to the Hour.

While Pogue and his wife are under an agreement to not talk, harass or assault each other, according to HuffingtonPost.com, police said an argument broke out when Jennifer allegedly tried to pick up her children on a day she wasn’t supposed to as part of the agreement.

According to police, David Pogue, who alleges he was attacked first, allegedly struck Jennifer Pogue in the head. The argument then turned physical, said police.

Both Pogue and his wife received a summons and appeared on Tuesday in Norwalk Superior Court in Connecticut, where a judge “issued a pair of protective orders,” according to The Hour. They are scheduled to appear back in court June 22.

According to the Westport News, Pogue spoke today (Thursday) at a conference to benefit a charity dedicated to domestic violence victims. Following his speech, in which he was reportedly unaware the incident had been picked up by several media outlets, Pogue elaborated to reporters about the situation.

"Not really my ex yet," he said, referring to Jennifer Pogue. "It's getting really messy." However, when asked by reporters about Monday’s incident and the charges, Pogue said he had no comment.

An emailed statement to the Westport News by David Pogue’s attorney, Mark D. Sherman, stated that he “expected the charges against David Pogue to be dropped.”

"The arrests arise from a brief confrontation between David and his wife," said Sherman. "Divorces can get emotional and we expect David to be cleared of this charge in due time."

Often billed as a “gadgets guru,” David Pogue frequently appears on radio and TV programs, including CNBC’s “Power Lunch,” “On the Money,” and CBS News Sunday Morning” several times a year. An author of several books including “The World According to Twitter,” David Pogue has been providing his commentary and tech insight to many facets of the New York Times since 2000.
