EchoStar Europe Intros HDX-600 Series Digital Video Recorder

EchoStar Europe is hoping to get a slice of the European IPTV (News - Alert) market with the launch of its new hybrid HD platform, the HDX-600 series digital video recorder (DVR). According to the company, the product is loaded with functions like high definition (HD) reception, advanced video coding (AVC) and hybrid functionality which enable IPTV operators to greatly enhance their service.
EchoStar Europe, a business unit of EchoStar Technologies dedicated to enabling cable, IPTV, satellite and terrestrial television operators to optimize network revenues by delivering added value, beyond the box technology, services and applications.
Using its 900 series platform and in partnership with SlingMedia, EchoStar Europe has made the new HDX-600 series IPTV DVR in a bid to allow customers to Sling content to connected devices such as a PC, Mac or mobile phone in secondary locations both inside and outside the home. It will be available with either an integrated hard disk drive, or as a stand-alone set-top box (HDX-400) with an upgrade path to DVR via a plug-in hard disk drive, and supports advanced video coding (AVC).
According to Rick Smith, Vice President Sales and Marketing at EchoStar Europe, the company intends to reap the benefits from the still growing IPTV market by introducing its value added solution into the market. And with the help of new technologies such as SlingLoaded and EchoStar Europe's unique content navigation systems the company has showcased to the IPTV operators the methods to bring new services to market and to grow their subscriber bases.
The company added that the SlingLoaded 900 series hybrid DVR lets users to place-shift their home television content to their PC, Mac or mobile phone enhancing user experience and operators can reduce churn when they deploy this product. Other innovations for the 900 series include a point-and-click-based graphical user interface (GUI) and touch-pad remote control to improve usability and put the consumer within easy reach of converged content and services delivered via broadcast, IP/video-on-demand or over-the-top.
