eBuddy Mobile Messenger Popularity Growing Exponentially

eBuddy (News - Alert), an independent provider of Web and mobile instant messaging, reported explosive IM growth, crossing 10 million J2ME downloads of its popular Mobile Messenger, launched in June 2007.

Processing over 1.5 billion messages per month for over 3 million unique mobile users, this messenger is ramping at a rate of more than 1 million downloads per month. It has been the leading mobile application download on GetJar for over 15 consecutive weeks, a significant rise since the last milestone of 5 million downloads in July 2008.

“The rapid pace at which our application is being adopted shows how hungry and eager people are for an intuitive, high quality, easy-to-use IM application like eBuddy," said eBuddy's CEO and co-founder, Jan-Joost (News - Alert) Rueb.

eBuddy's patent-pending technology enables more than 18 million unique monthly users with different networking applications and tools like AIM, Facebook (News - Alert), GoogleTalk, ICQ, MySpace, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! IM accounts to chat free of charge, without downloading or installing any application.

Research analysts estimate the global market for mobile IM will become an $11 billion industry by 2011, and IM penetration will be nearly 100 percent by the end of this decade. A similar report from Portio Research estimates that the entire mobile messaging industry, worth $130 billion in 2008, will be worth $224 billion by 2013.

The application market is hot and mobile operators are fueling the rapid increase of mobile Internet usage by offering affordable, flat-fee data packages not only in the Western world, but also in developing countries like India, China and Indonesia according to Kraal.

To cope with the rapid growth, eBuddy recently announced that it had has consolidated its server infrastructure into Switch and Data's (News - Alert) high performance data center in Sunnyvale, CA. Switch and Data is a provider of network neutral data center and Internet exchange services to support its 18 million plus visitors who visit the site each month.

eBuddy is available in 37 languages and offers two versions of its mobile client, the J2ME version, eBuddy Mobile Messenger and the mobile Internet browser version, eBuddy Lite Messenger. The eBuddy Lite Messenger features designs specifically created for Sony PSP, iPhone (News - Alert) and iPod Touch and networks including Facebook and ICQ.
