Shunra Introduces WAN Emulator For Evaluating IP Products In The Enterprise

Shunra Software announced the introduction of The Cloud version 1.1. This accurate, easy to use Software Emulator turns any LAN into a WAN enabling the user to evaluate any application, product or technology on any WAN configuration. It emulates the full scale deployment of content applications or products in addition to providing real time statistics for measuring vendor-promised Quality of Service.

"New products are still immature at launch, neither vendor nor buyer has had the ability to evaluate them using real network conditions that could cause problems. The Cloud uniquely offers flexibility to users for changing WAN parameters dynamically, emulating network conditions for testing products prior to deployment or purchase."

The new version introduces many emulation improvements, among which are link faults emulation, congestion and dynamic routing effects. Using The Cloud users can generate an accurate emulation of their WAN, or create a worse case scenario in which a product can be tested against all of the Internet "tricks" - e.g. sporadic fragmentation, packet re-ordering, etc.

The Cloud, using a patent pending Network Emulation methodology, utilizes the local network infrastructure to introduce WAN network parameters between the host network adapter (NIC) and the Internet protocol stack.

It simulates latency, data loss and bandwidth conditions of any IP WAN without the traffic ever leaving the user's location. From a 28.8Kbps to an 10Mbps modem, from zero latency, to a 3 second delayed satellite link, all conditions can be preset and replicated through the user friendly interface.

A simple yet powerful set up gives users full control over The Cloud. They can choose to set WAN parameters manually to predetermined performance parameters or by playback of performance recordings of any real WAN connection.

The Cloud runs on Window NT 4.0 Servers and Workstations, (minimum Pentium
133Mhz and 32 Mbytes of RAM recommended.) The Cloud IP WAN Emulator is available and shipping today. Shunra is offering The Cloud in two configurations: The Cloud 2Mb that supports bandwidth of up to 2Mbps costs $3000 for a single user license and The Cloud 10Mb that supports bandwidth of up to 10Mbps is $4000 for the single user license.
