Cambridge Consultants, STNC Develop Intranet-Enabled
DECT-Based Cordless Telephony Products
Cambridge Consultants Ltd. (CCL) and STNC Ltd. announced a strategic alliance to develop a new
range of DECT (Digital Enhanced [or European] Cordless Telephony)-based cordless telephony
products, capable of accessing intranet information as well as making voice calls.
CCL, the European technology centre of global consulting firm Arthur D. Little, and one
of Europe's most successful product design and innovation companies, is a leading provider
of licensable DECT hardware and software building blocks. STNC Ltd. is a
market leader in bringing information access capabilities to a wide range of mobile
devices. Such devices range from low-cost, small screen mobile handsets to smartphones and
palmtop computers.
STNC's HitchHiker smartphone platform enables manufacturers to create low-cost mobile
products capable of accessing a wide range of corporate information, from email messages
to calendar and contact details. By combining STNC's HitchHiker software, CCL's
data-capable DECT technologies and both companies' expertise in working with OEMs to
develop complete high-volume products, the two companies will work together to produce
complete end-to-end licensable hardware and software solutions for DECT-based intranet
products.
Final products are expected to range from palm-sized touchscreen devices capable of
displaying detailed graphical information from incoming e-mail, to corporate diary and
contact information at data rates of up to ten times that offered by today's cellular
technology. Other products will resemble current DECT handsets but will also have the
ability to access simple information, such as notifications of new email messages.
"STNC has a demonstrable ability to provide easy access to intranet information
and email from low-cost, high-volume OEM devices, allowing manufacturers to create
innovative new products in short timescales," says Evan Kirstel, DECT marketing
manager at CCL. "By working together, CCL and STNC will lead the DECT market in
producing advanced technology solutions today, and in providing rapid time-to-market for
OEMs developing the next generation of data-enabled DECT products for the corporate
landscape."
"STNC's aim is to make information easy and convenient to access in any
environment," explained Amy Mokady, STNC's marketing director. "Cambridge
Consultants is well-established in the DECT market, and by combining HitchHiker with CCL's
advanced DECT solutions, we can enable people to access their email and diary information
from anywhere in their office, not just from their desk."
