Toshiba Announces 10TB Enterprise Capacity HDD Generation With SATA Model Line-up
Toshiba
America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC), a committed technology
leader, today announces the 10TB1 MG06 Series
Enterprise Capacity HDD model line-up. Toshiba's (News - Alert) new MG06 series offers
a 25 percent capacity increase compared to prior generations and enables
models to be delivered at multiple capacity points to better leverage
capacity refresh qualification cycles for OEMs/ODMs infrastructure
builders, cloud solution providers (CSPs) and system integrators.

In addition to a heftier capacity, the 10TB MG06 Series features a
greater maximum sustained transfer rate, 237 MiB/s2, than the
earlier MG05 Series, as well as a 25 percent increase in MTTF3,
with a rating of 2.5M hours. The drive provides a SATA 6Gbit/s interface4
and 7,200 rpm performance. Additionally, the MG06 HDD supports emulated
512 Advanced Format (512e) technology for compatibility with legacy
applications and operating environments; or 4K native sector technology
for optimum performance in all-disk or hybrid storage platforms.
"The volume and value of digital data across organizations of all sizes
continues to create opportunities and challenges for CSPs, server and
storage vendors, and IT professionals," said Scott Wright, Director of
HDD Product Marketing at Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc.
"Toshiba's new MG06 Series advances performance and value across a range
of Enterprise Capacity HDD models to better align with the diverse needs
of systems and solutions for Cloud and Business Critical applications
today."
Designed to support higher storage density, the MG06 Series HDD
introduces 10TB to Toshiba's line-up while also updating 6TB and 8TB
capacities. Based on Toshiba's latest HDD architecture, the new models
can save rack space to improve the operational efficiency of cloud-scale
infrastructure. The MG06 Series is engineered for mid-line, nearline,
and tier two business critical server and storage system workloads;
including servers supporting application workloads that benefit from
high capacity per spindle; capacity-optimized data center storage
systems; and enterrise IT and data center servers supporting workloads
per HDD of up to 550TB total bytes written and read per year. All models
feature Toshiba's Persistent Write Cache Technology for peak performance
and enterprise-grade data reliability. Models also support power mode
management capabilities that conform to HDD industry standards.
Sample shipments of the MG06 SATA HDD model are now available. For more

Information in this press release, including product pricing and
specifications, content of services and contact information, is current
and believed to be accurate on the date of the announcement, but is
subject to change without prior notice. Technical and application
information contained here is subject to the most recent applicable
Toshiba product specifications.
1 Definition of capacity: Toshiba defines a megabyte (MB) as
1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes and a terabyte
(TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer operating system, however,
reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1TB = 230
bytes = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes and therefore shows less storage
capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various
media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings,
software and operating system, such as Microsoft (News - Alert) Operating System and/or
pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted
capacity may vary.
2 A kibibyte (KiB) means 210, or 1,024 bytes, a
mebibyte (MiB) means 220, or 1,048,576 bytes, and a gibibyte
(GiB) means 230, or 1,073,741,824 bytes.
3 MTTF (Mean Time to Failure) is not a guarantee or estimate
of product life; it is a statistical value related to mean failure rates
for a large number of products which may not accurately reflect actual
operation. Actual operating life of the product may be different from
the MTTF.
4 Read and write speed may vary depending on the host device,
read and write conditions, and file size.
