AT&S advocates trade in services to upgrade Chongqing Future Economy
CHONGQING, China, Sept. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Hannes Androsch, AT&S Supervisory Board Chairman and member of Chongqing Mayor's International Economic Advisory Council (CMIA), today attended the 11th Annual Meeting of the CMIA and delivered a keynote speech focusing on trade in services as a main driver for Chongqing's sustainable future development under the "Made in China 2025" national policy.
He emphasized Chongqing's role not only as an important manufacturing base, especially for electronics and in particular semiconductors but also as a future main hub for many strategic industries, based on Made in China 2025: core electronic components, the Internet of Things, robots and smart equipment. In order to transform its current product-oriented manufacturing into a service-oriented one and climb up the value chain, trade in services represents the next development step for Chongqing.
Androsch proposed a two-pillar strategy to drive trade in services in Chongqing. The first is technology to tighten collaboration along the whole value chain and to shift the economy from labour intensive manufacturing to an innovative, service-oriented one. The second pillar would be government guidance on foreign investment policy and to invest into building up a pool of the best talents for Chongqing.
At the meeting, Androsch shared his best practices as chairman of the supervisory board of AT&S that illustrate how to speed up trade in services in Chongqing. For example, adoption of mobile communications technologies, cloud computing, and "big data" analysis will boost plant throughput and uptime, enabling more flexible production and improving capacity utilization. It can also support new levels of innovation and automation that promote efficiency. Production at AT&S Chongqing is managed and controlled with data via MES (Manufacturing Execution System). It significantly improves the process and administration, and brings increased productivity, quality, accuracy and precision.
Chongqing is one of the most important production bases for AT&S worldwide. In this city, AT&S has established two plants. At Plant 1, AT&S produces IC substrates, the connection between microchips and printed circuit boards, which are used for microprocessors in computing applications. Plant 2 is currently still being set up and will produce Substrate-like PCBs for wearables and other potential IoT solutions.
Over the past year, AT&S has been sharing its insights and suggestions to support Chongqing's sustainable development via CMIA annual meetings. Meanwhile, AT&S also contributed to the city's economic development by continuously investing in high-tech connectivity technology in Chongqing.
