Fresco Logic Rounds Out Portfolio of Advanced USB Power Delivery Controllers
COMPUTEX TAIPEI - Fresco
Logic, a leading technology provider that develops high-speed
connectivity ICs and solutions for the computer, mobile, and smart
electronic device market, today introduced the FL7100 series, a new
family of stand-alone USB Power Delivery Controller products, supporting
one or two ports, that will bring the latest USB Power Delivery features
from USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) into a highly integrated IC. The
new USB PD controllers support the USB Power Delivery 3.0 and USB
Type-C™ specifications and can be used not only in PC and smart phone
applications, but also a wide range of devices such as PC peripherals,
AC adapters, projectors, robots, and other consumer electronics.
"Enhancements to USB PD furthers the product versatility and market
differentiation for solution providers such as Fresco Logic," said Jeff
Ravencraft, President and COO of USB-IF. "Fresco demonstrates their
ongoing commitment to the industry and their customers by aggressively
integrating the latest USB specifications into their products."
The FL7100 series incorporates the latest USB Power Delivery features,
Fast Role Swap, the new TCPC standard, UCSI, Billboard device, and a
DisplayPort Aux switch to distribute video over DP from the host to the
display, all in a single IC, enabling a variety of host and device power
implementations. Complementing Fresco's USB PD-enabled USB 3.1 hub
products the standalone USB PD controllers within this family target
specific applications such as host-side controllers that take advantage
of the enhanced features of the latest USB PD specification, device side
controllers, or power adaptors, in either single or dual-port versions.
BOM cost is drastically reduced by integrating the MCU, firmware
storage, VCONN switching, and LDOs.
"With the addition of the FL7100 family, we now complete our full line
up of USB Type-C and USB PD products that will allow our customers to
design the complete system from host, through the cable, to the device
with our highly integrated and compatibility-proven products," said
Robert McVay, CTO of Fresco Logic. "We have had an incredible customer
response to our FL7001 e-Marker IC, FL5002 Hub with integrated USB
Type-C and USB PD, and our FL7002 USB Type-C port controller. FL7100
with newly enhanced USB PD 3.0 features allows us to complete our USB PD
ecosystem portfolio by efficiently addressing host applications."
Availability: The FL7100 family is available in a 5x5 mm2
package with 32, 40, or 48 pins, depending on application. The FL7100
family will sample in early Q3 for early adopters with general
availability in Q4 of this year, including reference designs and boards.
Related Fresco Products: FL5002 is Fresco Logic's flagship USB
3.1 hub controller chip featuring USB-C and PD. FL7001 is the world's
smallest e-Marker chip that comes in a WLCSP package measuring just
1.64x0.84 mm2, for ultra-compact designs. FL7002 targets the
mobile phone and power supply markets. These products are all currently
in mass production.
Fresco Logic will demonstrate its USB-C and USB PD portfolio, along with
its F-One™ Aggregation Solution for Contactless applications, at
Computex Taipei, from May 31 to June 3 at the W-Hotel Taipei. For more
