Klick Health Inspires the Who's Who in New York Health with Experimental MUSE Event Concept

Inspiration took center stage last night at MUSE New York, an experimental new event, curated by Klick Health, to bring together the worlds of science, art and technology, and unite the healthcare industry in extraordinary, new ways.

Held at The Garage, a former piano factory in midtown Manhattan now owned by fashion designer Kenneth Cole, MUSE featured a guest list that looked a lot like the Who's Who in New York health, all converging to experience the unique blend of TED-like talks, electrifying musical performances, thought-provoking technology installations, and mind-blowing food (by celebrated New York-based Pinch Food Design) in an intimate club-like environment, not typically associated with industry conferences and think tanks.

"MUSE is a modern-day adaptation of the salon from the Age of Enlightenment," said Klick CEO and MUSE Chief Curator Leerom Segal. "Instead of poets, philosophers and artists, we've invited leading physicians, patient advocates, university researchers, health start-ups, and pharmaceutical/biotech executives to share ideas, have meaningful conversations, and connect new dots to generate exciting new possibilities in health."

Committed to shaping the future of digital health, Klick's research and product development arm, Klick Labs, showcased how technology will increasingly play a role in healthcare education and communications.

Traveling through a blood vesel in 3D

As guests entered MUSE, they were invited to travel through a blood vessel and experience an allergic reaction in 3D using Oculus Rift virtual reality technology. Wearing headsets to immerse themselves inside the microscopic blood vessel, they got a 360-degree perspective of what it's like to drift past red blood cells, platelets and a plaque-clogged passage, and see how white blood cells engulf hostile bacteria, causing allergens to affect a response from the immune system.

"We are constantly exploring how technology can be adapted to advance healthcare education and communications," said Keith Liu, VP of Klick Labs. "The immersive nature of virtual reality, for example, is way more engaging and memorable than a video. With virtual reality, users aren't just watching the experience - they're part of it."

MUSE also demonstrated how 3D animation projection mapping can be utilized as a powerful, new alternative to videos in medical schools, health conferences and doctors' offices with custom, detailed anatomical animation projected onto human life forms illustrating blood flow and disease treatments.

A series of enlightening talks and performances also took to the stage, led by personalities, including:

  • Adrianne Haslet-Davis, the professional ballroom dancer who is dancing again after losing her lower left leg at the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing;
  • Jack Andraka, the Maryland teen and author of Breakthrough (HarperCollins, March 10, 2015) who, three years ago at age 15, invented an inexpensive early-detection test for pancreatic, ovarian, and lung cancers;
  • New York's own Matthew Zachary who was diagnosed with brain cancer at 21 and founded Stupid Cancer, the nation's dominant youth/young adult cancer advocacy non-profit.
  • Dr. Steven Eisenberg, the most followed oncologist on Twitter (News - Alert), who creates podcasts and apps to help patients better connect and communicate with him;
  • ELEW, the rockjazz musician who combines classic piano technique with modern pop and rock songs, and whose explosively physical style has shaken stages at the Vanity Fair Oscar party, Sundance Film Festival, and Super Bowl, among others.
  • Adrian Anantawan, the Yale and Harvard graduate violinist and Terry Fox Hall of Fame member, who has studied with Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman, and has performed at the White House, Opening Ceremonies of the Athens and Vancouver Olympic Games and the United Nations.

Google (News - Alert) presented fascinating new technology advancements in health, while the Digital Health Coalition revealed new diabetes research findings, and NOSTALAB's John Nosta shared a transformational secret about genius with attendees.
