Novatel Wireless Intros MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot Platform at Mobile World Congress

Novatel Wireless (News - Alert), Inc., a provider of wireless broadband access solutions, will introduce new applications that it has developed for the MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot platform at the Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) 2010 being held at Barcelona, Spain.

The company had previously launched an exclusive MiFi software platform that has enhanced features and converts the MiFi from a connectivity device to a full-scale Intelligent Mobile Hotspot. Leveraging the MiFi software platform, users can access its applications through any WiFi (News - Alert)-enabled device, while the device connects to remote data locations, retrieves data and presents it to the user either online or offline via its onboard Web server. Protecting the operator's network, the enhanced platform architecture maintains the ability for new applications and services to be field-deployed to generate additional Average Revenue Per User.
During its demonstration at the event, Novatel will display a number of applications custom made for the MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot Platform. These applications include AutoVPN, which is an always-available, secure service-delivery platform for SMBs and enterprise secure remote access.
MiFi AutoVPN simplifies Virtual Private Network or ‘VPN’ configuration and maintenance and offers compatibility with leading VPN server gateways, apart from providing another level of security for mobile broadband users. NovaDrive is a yet another application that helps in storing and accessing files from local storage, removable storage, or cloud storage from multiple locations on any device that supports a browser and Wi-Fi connection.
The application includes a number of security and location features that extend performance beyond storage and retrieval to the cloud. The third solution is MiFi PhotoSharing Application with Eye-Fi, using which the users can easily and instantly upload photos and video from wherever they are.
According to Rob Hadley, chief marketing officer, Novatel Wireless, the MiFi software platform provides a universe of potential for new applications across multiple markets, and offers new revenue opportunities for operators and enables markets and usage patterns that have never before existed. Hadley continued that with the unprecedented MiFi Landing Page, on-board Linux-based application processing support, an on-board Web server and media storage capabilities, the MiFi software platform provides a variety of exciting and innovative opportunities for consumer and SMB application development.
Recently, Novatel Wireless, Inc. had announced that CAT, the only CDMA operator in Thailand, is launching the Novatel Wireless' MiFi 2220 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot. At the launch, Senior Executive Vice President, CAT, Preecha Chindamai, said that the company is dedicated to delivering the industry's most cutting edge solutions to users across Thailand, and is delighted to be the first operator in Asia to deliver the unprecedented functionality and access of Novatel's MiFi 2200.
