D2 Teams with Two Major Players for Mobile World Congress Rollout

They say a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, but the opposite can also be true: A chain is strong if all the links are strong as well. That’s why it makes sense to learn that D2 Technologies (News - Alert), the market leader in embedded IP communications software platforms, has teamed up with two other technology giants for the debut of a new product at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (News - Alert).

Taking place March 2-5 in Barcelona, Spain, the show will convene industry leaders, visionaries and innovators to explore the trends that will shape mobile in the years ahead.

It was just announced that D2, along with InterDigital -- a mobile technology research and development company and solutions provider -- and Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert), an IP networking, ultra-broadband access and cloud technology leader, will debut an advanced IMS solution that supports secure voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) together with VoLTE, IR.94 video call and RCS in a single platform.

"The move to all-IP communications via VoLTE, IR.94 video calling and RCS not only provides users with richer communications functionality, it also enables operators to offer all of these services over Wi-Fi networks as well as their own mobile networks," said Doug Makishima (News - Alert), chief operating officer for D2 Technologies, in a statement announcing the rollout. "Alcatel-Lucent is a leader in IMS infrastructure deployments and continues to innovate in mobile IP communications. By working together, we can provide pre-integrated and optimized solutions that accelerate operator deployments of these advanced communications features."

According to the companies, InterDigital (News - Alert)'s Smart Access Manager client improves the user experience on cellular and Wi-Fi networks by providing seamless and secure access with intelligent network selection. It enables application traffic management based on real-time network conditions, operator policies and user preferences.

"The quality of experience with seamless and secure access on the Wi-Fi networks is critical for the success of the new services like VoWiFi and RCS," said James Nolan, EVP of InterDigital Solutions. "We are excited about enabling the next generation of services using our core mobile technologies such as Smart Access Manager client."
