SpeedUp SmartWatch Revealed at Mobile World Congress 2014

SpeedUp Technology is already famous for the SpeedUp Pad 7.85, one of the lightest and thinnest android tablets in its class. But on Feb. 24, SpeedUp officially announced its first wearable product, the SpeedUp SmartWatch. This presentation was made in Barcelona, Spain, at this year’s Mobile World Congress (News - Alert).

The SpeedUp SmartWatch has already received a fair amount of attention, due to the fact that the device fits into an emerging category of wireless devices that interact with smartphones and other “smart” devices. Smartwatches are also expected to become more popular in the predicted “Internet of Things” lifestyle of the near future. The SpeedUp SmartWatch device features a 1.54-inch glass multi-touch display, with tempered glass and IP57 Water Resistant Technology to improve longevity and durability. A low power MIPS-based CPU allows the SmartWatch to operate with a long battery life.

“One of our key priorities in 2014 is creating innovative and practical wearable technologies with long life battery,” said Rahmad Widjaja Sakti, vice president of product and marketing for SpeedUp. “We chose a MIPS-based processor given its industry-leading low power design and complete support of Android by Google (News - Alert). We are proud to achieve this milestone of delivering the world’s first Android 4.4 KitKat smartwatch, and do it so early in the year. Because of its unique and appealing design, we believe consumers will be eager to adopt the SpeedUp SmartWatch, making it a significant milestone for us in penetrating the wearable technologies market.”

The fact that the SmartWatch is using Android’s (News - Alert) new KitKat 4.4 operating system means that SpeedUp is ready to play ball with Google’s new restrictions, which limit usage of the Google Play Store and other Google services to those compatible with its latest operating system. However, the device does not rely on Google entirely for functionality. The watch also incorporates several features including displaying the current date, weather and, of course, time.
