Ulticom (News - Alert) Inc. released an official statement confirming that more than 50 percent of its Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC) deployments are in virtual environments. The DSC solutions from Ulticom are architected to support conventional dedicated server deployments as well as virtualized server deployments. Ulticom also announced that the company will showcase all the functionalities and capabilities of its industry-leading DSC products at the Mobile World Congress 2014 happening in Barcelona.
In a release, Jamie McArdle, vice president of sales at Ulticom, said, “The Ulticom DSC is deployed in multiple networks by Mobile Network Operators using virtualization technologies as their route to NFV. The majority of our customers are deploying in a virtualized environment or seeking a solution with virtualization in mind.”
The Ulticom controllers are ideally designed to enable massive scaling capabilities when used with cloud and virtualization technologies. The Ulticom DSC is compatible with most of the hypervisor technologies such as KVM, Virtual Box (News - Alert) and VMware. The Ulticom DSC is a Linux-based software application which can be installed as a stand-alone solution or can be seamlessly integrated into existing or new systems to deliver a turnkey solution for Roaming Hub Operators, Telecom Equipment Manufacturers and Mobile Network Operators.
Speaking of the virtualization capabilities of Ulticom DSC, Bruce Swail, CEO at Ulticom, said “Virtualization support in Ulticom's DSC underscores our commitment to the signaling industry. Competitive pressures drive virtualization and Ulticom takes great pride in being a leader in this key enabling technology. Ulticom remains committed to solutions solving the most demanding cost models.”
The DSC can be configured to function as a Centralized Router, IPX Hub, Diameter Routing Agent (DRA), Diameter Load Balancer or a Diameter Edge Agent (DEA). The IPX Hub and DEA capabilities allow for LTE (News - Alert) Roaming features while DRA can be used for policy management signaling routing (IP-CAN Binding). The Ulticom DSC also features internetworking capability between SS7 and Diameter networks for enabling integration of 2G-3G-4G technologies.
Ulticom Inc. is engaged in the development of mission critical software applications to support the evolving trends in information delivery space. The company’s proprietary product Signalware is deployed across more than 7,000 installations globally for deploying services and solutions within wireline, wireless and IP networks.
