Traffix to Showcase Diameter Signaling Solutions at Mobile World Congress 2012


Long Term Evolution (LTE), designated as a fourth-generation (4G) mobile specification, provides multi-megabit bandwidth, more efficient use of the radio network, latency reduction, and improved mobility. However, network architects come across various challenges while rolling out an LTE (News - Alert) network.


To overcome these challenges, Traffix, a provider of solutions for 4G and Diameter, has rolled out two new Diameter signaling solutions, namely inter-working function (IWF) of Diameter/SS7-MAP and Diameter Testing and Simulation Suite, which will be showcased at Mobile World Congress 2012.

Diameter is an authentication, authorization and accounting protocol intended for computer networks.

Both the IWF Diameter/SS7-MAP solution and the Testing & Simulation Suite are available as part of the Traffix Signaling Delivery Controller (SDC) platform, which allows for full connectivity, unlimited scalability, and comprehensive control for operators by offering Diameter Gateway (News - Alert), Diameter Load Balancer and Diameter Router solutions.

Traffix’s new Inter-working Function (IWF) of Diameter/SS7-MAP is a solution for seamless connection of LTE elements, interfaces and protocols to legacy SS7. This delivers cost savings on the reuse of legacy elements.

The Interworking Function (IWF), which specifies Diameter to SS7-MAP and vice versa interworking, has been defined by industry standard bodies 3GPP and GSMA (News - Alert).

With the help of Traffix’s Inter-working Function (IWF) of Diameter/SS7-MAP, operators will be able to enable 2G/3G network elements to communicate with LTE elements such as Mobility Management Entity (MME) and Home Subscriber Server (HSS) for subscriber management. This is possible by supporting SS7 legacy protocol with the IWF.

Some of the other use cases powered by Traffix IWF that were cited in the press release include reciprocal roaming of new (greenfield) LTE operators on non-LTE networks, and allowing connectivity of an SS7 Equipment Identity Register (EIR) in an LTE network.

Another key Diameter signaling solution to be showcased along with the Inter-working Function (IWF) of Diameter/SS7-MAP includes the Diameter Testing & Simulation Suite.

Capable of simulating complex scenarios for rapid service implementation, the new Traffix Diameter Testing & Simulation Suite is a comprehensive environment for testing automation including validation of stress, load, stability and scalability of all Diameter scenarios. It helps in maintaining high network performance and availability consistently.

The Diameter Testing & Simulation Suite also enables operators to run stability testing of 4G network elements from any vendor; run Diameter over SCTP/TCP testing; upload several standards simultaneously, and more.

Officials with Traffix said that the company would be highlighting many other Diameter signaling solutions of routing, load balancing and gateway connectivity that overcome challenging use cases that LTE presents to operators, at the Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) 2012.
