Samsung's 'Instinct' Phone Takes Home CTIA 'Best in Show' E-Tech Award, Judges Announce Other Winners

One of the highlights of the event, held in Las Vegas, Nevada, was the Emerging Technology Awards. The E-Tech awards honor the products in a number of categories representing the wireless ecosystem, including mobile consumer electronics, consumer mobile applications, enterprise solutions, network infrastructure, mobile widgets and 4G.



 
Robert Mesirow, CTIA vice president and show director said that this year’s E-Tech award winners represent all facets of the mobile lifestyle, from the enterprise to the consumer. Nearly 300 submissions were received for the 2008 E-Tech Awards. A panel of 31 judges evaluated each entry based on innovation, functionality, “wow factor,” importance of technology and ease of use and implementation.
 
This year’s panel of E-Tech judges included Michelle Sklar from bnetTV; Steven Wildstrom from BusinessWeek; Jessica Dolcourt, Josh Lowensohn and Kent German from CNET; Colin Gibbs and Mike Dano from RCR Wireless News; Peter Ha from TechCrunch Network; Rhonda Wickham from Wireless Week; and Christopher Null and Gina Huges from Yahoo! Tech.
 
The ‘Best in Show’ award, chosen by CTIA Wireless attendees via text voting, went to the ‘Instinct’ phone (SPM-M800) by Samsung (News - Alert), available exclusively from Sprint. This phone was unveiled during Sprint Nextel CEO Dan Hesse’s keynote address on Tuesday.
