With CES 2013 currently being held in Las Vegas, social video chat service provider ooVoo (News - Alert) decided to unveil its latest social video feature dubbed Watch Together. The goal with Watch Together was for ooVoo to recreate the old days and bring family and friends together to share and enjoy videos, and with its latest feature allowing a group of up to 11 users to watch YouTube (News - Alert) videos together, ooVoo may have achieved the “virtual couch” it was going for.

"We all remember that watching TV on the couch with our friends was the greatest way to get the most out of a show, and with Watch Together, we've launched a 'virtual couch' where friends can have that same fun wherever they may be," said Jay Samit, president of ooVoo, in a statement.

Initially, Watch Together will be available to PC users only through ooVoo for Desktop. The innovative technology will let users search for and share any YouTube videos they’d like. It also features the full functionality of any one member in the chat to control the video as well as a display of YouTube videos that are currently trending, similar to that of the hash tags with Twitter (News - Alert).

Watch Together is doing exactly what ooVoo intended it to do, get more groups of friends and families to share more videos. The average call length with Watch Together increased from 22 minutes up to 37 minutes from the beta test phase, according to a press release. During those calls, an average of four YouTube videos were watched, with 37 percent of users sharing between three and five videos.

"OoVoo's Watch Together brings a second screen experience to friends and families that is unparalleled, letting them find out what's new, and chat about it all in a fun way that everyone can enjoy," Samit added.
