Microsoft and Motorola Most Tweeted Companies During CES

During the height of CES (News - Alert), there were a lot of different companies that were being talked about and tweeted about. What was interesting during this course of time is that some of the most talked about companies were also the ones that have been around the longest. Among the many, many companies that got a mention on some of the biggest social media websites in the world, it was Microsoft and Motorola who accounted for the most mentions.

Combined, the two companies ended up making up 10 percent of the total tweets that had the #CES hashtag. Each company ended up with 5 percent of the total tweets. The two companies managed this feat by different techniques. Microsoft earned their large amount of tweets thanks in no small part to the company’s CEO, Steve Ballmer (News - Alert), being the opening keynote speaker at this year’s CES.

This will also be Microsoft’s last CES appearance for the near future, adding a level of interest that might not otherwise have been seen. Microsoft saw a high of 12 percent of mentions the night before CES began, and those mentions fell to a low of 4 percent the day after the event began.

For Motorola’s (News - Alert) part, the company saw mention percentages of 2, 4, 5 and 9 starting the day before CES began through day 3. Of course, it doesn’t appear as if the company itself did a whole lot to garner those mentions. Instead the large number of tweets had a great deal to do with the fact that the company @NextIssue was giving away a Motorola Xoom in a contest made to get followers and tweets.

Among the other companies garnering quite a bit of talk were Samsung and Intel (News - Alert), which both had 4 percent of the total tweets. Sony and HP each got 3 percent of the tweeting traffic and Nokia and LG each had 2 percent. Apple (News - Alert) had one percent of the total mentions despite the fact that they did not even attend the CES this year. Among the topics that got the most mention, OLED screens were the runaway winners with 2,099 tweets.
