Lenovo Unveils Smart TV Running Ice Cream Sandwich
CES (News - Alert) is always one of the biggest tech shows of the year, simply because so many different companies unveil so many different products. One of the companies that could be the toast of the convention is Lenovo. The tech company looks to take the spotlight in a big way as they showed off a 55-inch smart television that is running the Android (News - Alert) 4.0 operating system, otherwise known as Ice Cream Sandwich.
Smart TVs are not something completely new, but this particular model is the first one that actually boasts the ICS OS. This just happens to be another successful run for the computer maker who has had quite a good 2011 and looks as if 2012 will be really good year as well. This particular smart television has been dubbed the K91. The K91 has a 1080p display and a 1.5 GHz dual core processor. The television acts also an impressive 1GB of RAM (News - Alert) and has a front facing 5-megapixel camera that will support facial recognition should you decide to go that route.
One of the really cool features of this particular smart television is that is actually has a second operating system. In addition to Ice Cream Sandwich, the K91 also runs an interface known as Sandwich UI. This particular interface supports video-on-demand, regular television programming and web apps. Apparently the K91 will also be able to be run through voice commands and will be able to be paired up with an Android tablet or smartphone.
While the K91 was the belle of the ball when it came to Lenovo’s (News - Alert) reveal, they also trotted out an Android tablet that was running ICS. The IdeaTab S2 sports a 1.5 GHz dual core processor and 1GB of RAM with the ability to upgrade to 16-64GB in storage. This particular tablet will also come with a dock that will support a second battery. Running on two batteries, the tablet will be able to run an additional 10 hours without charging. Lenovo rounded out its unveiling with a new smartphone that is running on Android 2.3 and is part of a package being called the “Personal Cloud” vision.
