TuneIn Radio Introduces 50,000 Radio Stations to Ford SYNC AppLink

If you're bored and can't find anything on the radio, TuneIn Radio and Ford have some good news for you. Ford's SYNC AppLink will start including TuneIn Radio's selection of 50,000 radio stations. The updated version of TuneIn's applications will include support for Deadborn's “auto interconnect” feature, letting you access AM, FM, Internet, and HD radio stations around the world.

The SYNC AppLink engine will also let you send commands to the interface through your voice. We believe that the Android (News - Alert) version of the application will come out very soon, and another version for iOS will come to the App Store.

The news came from an announcement made by Ford motor company and TuneIn radio at the 2012 International CES (News - Alert). They said that the app would be used with vehicles that have SYNC AppLink, and it might also include capabilities for hands-free control for safer driving during operation.

“Smartphone apps have ingratiated themselves into the lives of shoppers to this type of degree that we've got come to rely on them for far of our news and entertainment,” said Doug VanDagens, director of Ford Connected Services. “With the addition of TuneIn, SYNC is reflecting that trend while dramatically increasing the worldwide listening choices of Ford drivers.”

On its own, TuneIn is a free application and service that allows you to listen to any local and global radio stations including music, sports, talk shows, and news. It also offers more than 1 million streaming programs from every part of the globe.

“TuneIn captivates people by offering unprecedented access to hear anything they wish from local talk radio to live sports to music,” said CEO of TuneIn John Donham. “With TuneIn, Ford drivers can now more easily benefit from the world's audio from their favorite hometown stations to broadcasts half [the globe] away, making listening much more global and private.”
