Garmin Announces dezl Series of Satellite Navigators for Trucking Industry

Garmin, a dealer in satellite navigation, released the dezl series of Garmin (News - Alert) navigators for the over-the-road trucking industry.

The dezl navigators are available in two models – the dezl 560LMT and the dezl 560LT. The LT model is a lifetime traffic-enabled model that notifies drivers of traffic delays and road construction and drivers can choose from the traffic detours it charts for them. The LMT model adds lifetime map updates.

Both the models are designed for truck friendly navigation and come packed with features such as: truck specific routing for lower 48 states; preloaded NTTS Breakdown Directory; preloaded street maps for North America; lane assist; FM lifetime traffic; Bluetooth wireless; ability to speak street names; ‘Where am I?’, photo navigation; and more.

The NTTS Breakdown directory is a comprehensive guide to semi truck repair facilities nationwide and Garmin claimed that it is the only navigation provider to incorporate a feature to use this facility. The directory allows truck drivers to access update information about thousands of repair and heavy duty towing services across the continental United States and Canada.

Garmin explained that designed with truckers in mind, the dezl navigator has a large 5-inch display, extra loud speakers, and external video input for backup cameras. It has also expanded the feature list to include trucking speed limits, truck-specific route highlighting, and trucking points of interest (POIs). And truck drivers aren’t the only type of drivers that will like the 560LMT – RV drivers will appreciate the ability to setup an RV profile and calculate routes based on height, weight and length restrictions.

“The dezl is designed to satisfy the navigation needs of the trucking industry,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales, in a press release. “Big enough to be seen and loud enough to be heard in the trucking environment, the dezl is pre-loaded with truck-specific features that can save drivers time, money and fuel, making it the ultimate combination of practicality and convenience.”

The company stated that the dezl 560LT has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $469.99, and the dezl 560LTM is priced at $529.99. Both devices are expected to be available in the first quarter of 2011.
