Dubai's Silicon Oasis to Participate in CeBit 2012

The Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), a United Arab Emerits-based “technology eco system,” is gearing up to participate in CeBit 2012.

Founded in 2004, the Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) defines itself as a "revolutionary technology park." The Arab Emirate directly owns the 7.2 square kilometer area on which the DSO exists, and provides benefits to technology manufacturing companies in exchange for their willingness to conduct business in the region. DSO offers services to any tech-related company interested in either setting up, or expanding the presence of their operation in the Middle East. The area contains a unique blend of living and working solutions to these companies, including everything basic infrastructure to financial support and consulting.

Expedior, a WiFi (News - Alert) provider for underserved areas in Sub-Saharan Africa, and Greenbytes, a solid-state data storage pioneer, represent two examples of companies who have taken advantage of the support DSO offers to significant benefit.

CeBit serves as an international meeting space for everyone involved and enthusiastic about the technology industry. Skilled tradespeople, government entities, finance moguls and retail businesses network and compare notes at the fair. Attendees will conduct conferences, discussions, and seminars discussing a wide range of issues prescient to the technology and communications industries. In specific, discussions of privacy, security and trust will take a primary interest in the 27th annual fair.

According to Moscow-based news outlet, Itar-Tass, Cebit 2012 has already received such noteworthy guests as the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, and the president of Brazil: Dilma Rousseff. The Hannover, Germany-based event saw 4,200 guests from a total of 70 separate countries in 2011. The 2012 version will take place between 6 and 12 Mar. They have ramped up projections significantly for the 2012 run, planning for almost 340,000 visitors from a total of 110 countries.

From what we have already seen in 2012, we can predict that this year, tensions with the Middle East will remain a trustworthy supply of stress-headaches. Taken in this context, we should not downplay the significance of small but positive diplomatic gestures such as the DSO's interest in CeBit 2012.
