Tekelec’s (news - alert) VocalData, a hosted Internet protocol (IP) telephony solutions provider, announced today that One Connect IP, a New Mexico IP service provider, has deployed its application server to support direct and wholesale hosted voice over IP (VoIP - define - news - alert) services throughout the state. One Connect has near-future plans to expand its coverage area to include the Rocky mountain area and portions of California and Texas. The solution has been operating live in the carrier's network since September 2004.

With Tekelec's app server in place, One Connect IP is able to deliver Internet telephony features including unified messaging, user-scheduled conferencing, click-to-dial and Web-based user control over services such as “follow me” call forwarding function. VocalData says its browser-based Web Portal raises brand awareness and increases customer ease-of-use through visual voicemail and integration of directories and calendars with telephony features.
The app server supports more than 200 calls per second and up to 100,000 lines per implementation on one server pair. Tekelec designed the app server with Internet service providers in mind, enabling them to add new retail VoIP partners. The company says that the server delivers a cost-effective, carrier-class solution allowing One Connect IP to meet wholesale partners' fast-paced and fluctuating customer base.
Tricia Hosek, president of Tekelec's Next-Generation Switching Group, added, "With our highly reliable, multi-service application server, One Connect IP will be able to deliver next-generation services and attract new customers without the hassles of high equipment costs and limited capacity.
