Definition:

Customer Premise Equipment is connected via a private line to local multiplexer/switch via a principal carrier or third-party exchange carrier. Backhaul connection to Frame Relay, IP-Internet Protocol network is via private leased line by same or different common carrier. Data networks whether Frame Relay, ATM-Asynchronous Transfer Mode, IP-Internet Protocol consists of a network or "cloud" or "mesh net" of private lines which may be SONET-Synchronous Optical NETworks, copper, microwave wireless or satellite systems.
