A Primary Rate Interface (PRI) is the basic connection used by phone companies that allow multiple voice and data paths to share a common circuit. The PRI consists of 23 B channels, which carry voice and data, and 1 D channel, which carries signaling data for the other 23 channels. This ratio is fixed and channels must be added in multiples of 23 should you need to add more. Each PRI requires data communication hardware on either end.
