Bell Labs Prize Reynaert Vandevoorde

The Bell Labs Prize is a competition for innovators from participating countries around the globe that seeks to recognize proposals that 'change the game' in the field of information and communications technologies by a factor of 10, and provides selected innovators the unique opportunity to collaborate with Bell Labs researchers to help realize their vision. In 2014, professor Patrick Reynaert (KU Leuven, Belgium) win the second prize with his proposal "RF through Plastics". Professor Reynaert proposes to develop a new communication technology based on small CMOS radio interfaces that are connected through inexpensive plastic waveguides, enabling much higher speed data communications across several meters, such as inter- or intra-chassis communications, and at a far lower cost (and easier) than equivalent optical communications.
