Telmex Acquires ZAP TV to Introduce Wireless Triple Play Service By Niladri Sekhar Nath TMCnet Contributing Editor With an aim to consolidate its position in the local residential market, The Chilean unit of Telmex has announced they acquired Chilean satellite TV operator Zap TV.
Through the acquisition, Telmex will introduce its first wireless triple play
"This launch is our way to offer more services to the residential market. We believe the residential segment is looking for an integrated offering of communications and entertainment and ZAP (News - Alert) is the perfect complement," said Telmex Chile's general manager Eduardo Daz Corona in a statement to the pres.
With the introduction of the triple play service, Telmex plans to target new triple play clients and also those that have contracts with local competitors VTR and Telefonica Chile.
"We expect the [triple play] market to expand and grow in the next five years. We also expect clients to see our value added offering, so that might imply wining clients over our competitors," said Corona.
With the acquisition of ZAP, Telmex Chile also has a new satellite TV service available nationwide.
In addition, the wireless triple play package is available in areas covered by the WiMax network which is projected to cover 91 percent of all Chilean municipalities by the end of 2007.
