Alcatel-Lucent to Help MTS Allstream Deploy IPTV

By Niladri Sekhar Nath

Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) is set to help MTS Allstream, a Canadian national communication solutions provider and wholly owned subsidiary of Manitoba Telecom Services Inc, for its imminent Internet Protocol television (IPTV) deployment.

The solution will be based on Alcatel-Lucent’s Triple Play (News - Alert) Service Delivery Architecture (TPSDA) and Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV and multimedia platform. The service will support an increased subscriber base and enable MTS Allstream (News - Alert) to launch in new markets.

Alcatel-Lucent will provide its TPSDA architecture and will be the end-to-end network integrator, with the solution including an IP/MPLS network based on the 7750 Service Router (SR) and a broadband access
network based on the 7730 Intelligent Services Access Manager Fiber-to-the-Node (ISAM FTTN).

The solution also incorporates the 5750 Subscriber Services Controller, 5620 Service Aware (News - Alert) Manager and 5526 Access Management System and integrates the Microsoft Mediaroom platform for TV service delivery. Alcatel-Lucent claims that the solution will also enable the company to offer converged services over a single IP/MPLS infrastructure with full quality of service (QoS) enabling enhanced services such as VoIP, T-Commerce and other interactive and blended services.

The company said its solution leverages its IP Transformation Centers (IPTCs) resources, including network, service platforms and OSS systems, and confirmed it will also provide the design, testing, integration, deployment and maintenance for MTS Allstream.
