Vedic Technologies Announces The VBX, A
Complete Office Telephone Solution For PDA Users
Vedic Technologies
announced the availability of the VBX, a complete PBX system that turns
PDA into mobile office telephones. The VBX will give PDA users the
ability to make and receive phone calls from their PDA to anyone in the
world. Additionally, the VBX provides features normally found with
expensive office PBX systems, such as voice mail, auto attendant, call
conferencing, hold music, hunt groups and call forwarding to cell phones
or other phones.
Percy Rajani, CEO of Vedic Technologies, said, "The VBX brings unprecedented
features and functions to the PDA user. Connected to the
VBX, your PDA becomes your office phone, with voice mail, call
conferencing and call forwarding. We are offering all these features at
an incredibly low price. Companies can replace their expensive and
difficult-to-use office phone systems with something that's cheaper and
easier to use-with more functionality."
The VBX works by converting your computer network into a telephone
system. It provides a gateway to the public switched telephone network
(PSTN), allowing your PCs and PDAs to make and receive phone calls from
regular and cell phones. The PDAs, connected with WiFi (802.11b), then
become mobile telephones that you can carry around your office or
campus.
Optional features extend the functionality of the VBX even further:
- LongDistanceSaver allows free calls from VBX to VBX via the
Internet or a dedicated data line. Call distribution could be then
global-calls could be routed automatically to overseas call centers. For
example, a company with offices in New York, London and Bombay could
install LongDistanceSaver and then have calls freely routed among these
offices. Both sides of the call must have LongDistanceSaver.
- RemoteDialTone extends LongDistanceSaver, allowing access to dial
tone and dial freely in a remote location. For example, a company has
VBXs with LongDistanceSaver installed in Chicago and Paris. With
RemoteDialTone, a user in Paris could access Chicago dial tone and dial
out from there. A local call within Chicago or a 1-800 call would then
be free from Paris.
The VBX is a combination of hardware and software. The server software
runs on Windows NT, 2000 and XP operating systems, while the client runs
on Windows 98 and Pocket PC operating systems. The hardware provides
four ports to the PSTN and is expandable up to sixteen ports.
