Opera Software has developed a free Web browser for mobile phones called Opera MiniT. The Web browser is currently available for BlackBerryT and Palm handsets. Opera MiniT promises faster delivery of Web pages to BlackBerryT and Palm TreoT users.

Opera MiniT facilitates faster and better page rendering while saving on memory and data usage. The Web browser proves extremely handy for those with healthier handset and smaller bill. Opera MiniT comes with a server-based component that compresses Web pages, thus reducing the size of data transferred and associated costs.

“Opera MiniT is a no-frills, instant gateway to the World Wide Web on today's basic line of mobile phones," says Rolf Assev, chief commercial officer, Opera Software, in a press release. “People who are accustomed to mobile browsing in addition to e-mailing or texting, enjoy the speed and reliability Opera MiniT offers on today's professional handsets." Opera MiniT is available free of charge via download at mini.opera.com.

According to the press release, Opera MiniT has already crossed 1 billion pages viewed. The browser currently has over 7 million users worldwide. However, the most satisfying fact for Opera Software is that leading operators, such as Europe's T-Mobile (News - Alert), are already recognizing Opera MiniT as a key service enabler by installing the browser on select handsets.

The industry Usage statistics shows that Google (News - Alert) search is the most popular .com site visited using Opera MiniT, followed by Gmail.com, Friendster.com, MySpace.com, Yahoo Messenger and hi5.com.

“We see that users are browsing with Opera MiniT in the same as they are accustomed to on their desktop. They use Mini to find information or network, even bid on eBay (News - Alert) while on-the-go,” Assev said.
