Accessing critical information from a mobile device is fast and convenient and provides access to information anytime, anywhere. But accessing critical information from a mobile device can also be risky since so few people think to install security software.

Now, Aton International has introduced Aton Connect for Windows Mobile Professional and Aton Connect for Windows Mobile Standard, Version 8.1. These releases address the issue of security, especially for the users of Windows Mobile phones.

The company uses a technology called terminal emulation to secure data transfers between the server and the mobile phone. Here, data is directly transferred from enterprise servers to the mobile phone.

Aton is arguably more secure than other modes of data transfers as it enables Windows Mobile access to corporate data from IBM (News - Alert) System z (mainframes), IBM System (AS/400) and Unix/Linux enterprise servers for use in sales, customer service, system administration, transportation, retail and manufacturing. Usually, other “web-to-host” applications require you to use an Internet server to provide data to the phone’s Web browser, where as the Aton Connect software is totally contained on the phone.

The Aton Connect also includes features such as keyboard shortcuts for non-touch screens and “on the fly” session switching as well as a full terminal emulation soft keyboard on touch screen phones. Even touch screens such as the Palm Treo 700wx and Sprint Touch and non-touch screen smartphones such as the Motorola (News - Alert) Q and AT&T BlackJack are covered with the two versions of Aton Connect for Windows Mobile.

Both versions are priced at $36 USD per device, making it a favorite for IT system administrators, sales teams, field service teams, college and university administrators and others who want real time access to enterprise data without a very high price tag.
