MobilePlanet Inc. has changed its name to eXpansys in the US marketplace.
 
MobilePlanet is a subsidiary of eXpansys plc, which is the owner of the eXpansys, Portix, Nomatica and YooNoo brands.
 
Together, these names form the biggest wireless technology online retail business in Europe and the USA. The business network serves millions of customers in 131 countries across the globe.
 
Steve Muttram, President of US Operations for eXpansys commented, “as a global public company with a number of different brands, we have decided to bring all our non eXpansys brands into the fold, and as such, as of the 1st of February 2008 MobilePlanet will be changing its name to eXpansys in the USA.”



 
MobilePlanet is a retailer of smartphones and handheld devices with wireless connectivity. Retail customers can benefit from the company’s service, which is offered through the Internet, corporate customers, are served through direct sales channels.
 
Over the last five years, the company has made several strategic acquisitions. One of these acquisitions, MobilePlanet, which was bought in 2005, was in line with eXpansys’ strategy to secure its position as the number one specialist online retailer of mobile devices across the world. At the time of the acquisition, the revenue size of MobilePlanet was approximately USD$21 million. Through the acquisition, eXpansys gained MobilePlanet’s customer, supplier and partner relationships.
 
 “The change from MobilePlanet to eXpansys is in name only, and the company will continue to operate as normal,” Corey Leach, Business Development Manager, was quoted as saying.
 
Corey also mentioned that the company is working to ensure the transition is smooth and that customers will face no hassles with service, especially with regard to their current orders.
