U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has hired IBM (News - Alert) to enhance information sharing within the organization. With IBM, TSA aims to share critical business and mission-related information with key audiences including federal, state, and local law enforcement, foreign partners, intelligence, defense, homeland security and the private sector.

IBM will work with the TSA Information Technology Division to develop a Service Oriented Architecture environment that will leverage and enhance existing IT systems and applications. The idea is to enable faster dissemination of critical information through the agency's current Information Sharing Environment.

Improved dissemination will help stakeholders receive important information via a variety of communications devices (cell phones, pagers, PDA's, and other standard messaging services). In addition, expanded access to directories of knowledge and personnel contacts will help TSA collaborate across agencies and beyond. The project supports the agencies overall goal of preventing terrorist acts against the United States, and protecting the Nation's transportation systems.

"The TSA's rapidly evolving and flexible environment demands new and innovative ways of distributing information," said John Nyland, Managing Partner, IBM Global Business Services, Public Sector. "We are proud to support the TSA's complex mission to ensure the freedom of movement for people and commerce in the U.S."
