eLearning Dynamics Launches PocketClassroom
Application
eLearning Dynamics has
launched PocketClassroom, a comprehensive, two-way classroom communication
and management application utilizing handheld Pocket PCs and wireless
networks. eLearning Dynamics recently signed an exclusive license for the
PocketClassroom trademark with Wake Forest University.
The software, which is to be sold under the PocketClassroom brand,
combines the electronic learning expertise of eLearning Dynamics with that
of Wake Forest University, a pioneer in the area of classroom computing.
Jay Dominick, Wake Forest University's Chief Information Officer said,
"Wake Forest's relationship with eLearning Dynamics is a natural
outgrowth of our internal efforts and has allowed us to work with a
like-minded commercial entity." "The combination of
PocketClassroom classroom management software with specialized mobile
computing devices is already having an impact in a number of public school
classrooms throughout Western North Carolina," Dominick said.
PocketClassroom, the Windows Pocket PC version of eLearning Dynamics'
Palm OS-based LearnTrac classroom assessment and communications software,
connects educators to students using wireless handheld devices such as the
HP iPAQ. The LearnTrac system reduces teachers' administrative burdens by
automating routine tasks, and improves student and teacher performance by
wirelessly administering tests, grading them and recording results. The
wireless system has also been shown to raise student participation in
classroom activities. Among its features is the ability for students to
"anonymously raise their hand" when they need clarification,
eliminating a major stumbling block with shy or learning disabled
students.
In recent weeks, eLearning Dynamics has struck marketing and
development deals with HP and MobilePlanet as those firms look to meet
growing demand in the education market.
"HP is excited about our relationship with eLearning
Dynamics," said Mike Humke, HP's Director of Higher Education
Markets. "PocketClassroom compliments the work HP is doing in
education and opens up new opportunities for our technology in the
classroom. By offering new tools for both students and faculty, eLearning
Dynamics is really helping to enhance education," Humke said.
"Microsoft is excited to be working with eLearning Dynamics and
Wake Forest University to bring to market Windows Powered Pocket PC-based
classroom solutions that will help educators and students collaborate in
new ways, share information more easily, and make learning a more mobile
experience," said Bob Maher, director of strategic planning at
Microsoft's Mobile Device Marketing Group. "By putting powerful
mobile learning tools in students' hands in the classroom, PocketClassroom
sets itself apart from other learning technology solutions.
PocketClassroom fits with the way educators teach without disrupting the
learning process in the classroom," Maher said.
