Sigaba Enhances End-To-End Security For
BlackBerry Messaging
Sigaba Corp. announced a new
product, Sigaba Secure Messaging for BlackBerry. This product, based on
Sigaba core technology, enables organizations to extend and enhance
their own security periphery beyond the wired LAN and the wireless radio
network to the Internet, offering additional protection to sensitive
information sent via email from desktop to BlackBerry handheld devices,
and vice-versa.
"Sigaba's solution represents the optimal mix of solid security
and end-user transparency," said John Ferraro, chief operating
officer of Sigaba. "Organizations trust the wireless network and
corporate systems to provide strong security, yet when information
travels outside that network there's a strong chance that it's not
protected. By implementing Sigaba Secure Messaging for BlackBerry, we
are able to help organizations enhance the native security of their
overall messaging solutions."
Sigaba provides authentication, security and auditing from sending to
receiving organizations, and from sender all the way to the recipient.
In addition, the product integrates seamlessly into the existing mail
infrastructure, allowing for rapid deployment with no user registration
required.
"Sigaba's approach to wrapping security around messages or any
`data in motion' -- whether desktop, laptop or wireless device -- is a
very exciting innovation for our industry," said Jon Zimmerman,
vice president, e.Health, Siemens Health Services. "The company's
approach is so simple and elegant, our team of experts looked hard to
try to find why this would not work for our customers. This solution has
all the earmarks of a real boost for our customers' operations. The end
result is that our customers will now have a way to securely communicate
-- conveniently, confidentially and privately -- with their partners,
vendors, customers, and even their employees right down the hall.
Bullet-proof secure communication is what Sigaba promised, and they're
delivering."
Sigaba Secure Messaging for BlackBerry consists of two components: a
secure email gateway at the sending organization or group, and a
parallel secure email gateway at the receiving organization or group.
The gateway software is installed inside the trusted LAN, between the
untrusted network and the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (which is
typically directly integrated with a mail server such as Microsoft
Exchange or Lotus Domino). The Sigaba Gateway scans all email traffic;
any email that contains sensitive information (and, optionally, all
email) is encrypted by the Sigaba Gateway using strong encryption.
The secure email is sent to the receiving organization, where it is
decrypted at the Sigaba Gateway. The email then goes to the email
server, which sends it to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server if the
recipient is using a BlackBerry handheld. Once at the BlackBerry
Enterprise Server, it is protected by the security provided by the
BlackBerry infrastructure and sent securely to the recipient. The
solution thus complements the BlackBerry Triple DES encryption
technology in a way that is transparent to both the sender and the
receiver, yet security is never compromised.
