TCO Impacts Companies Considering A PDA Strategy!

The mobile workforce is growing every day. Industry research firms predict that by the end of 2005 there will be nearly one billion handheld devices used by enterprise employees. The increased productivity these employees can achieve extends beyond simple scheduling and e-mail access. Employees can implement remote data access, location-based GPS solutions, and other wireless connectivity solutions that are secure and enable access to corporate networks and applications anytime/anywhere.

Executives everywhere are starting to understand the advantages of handheld enterprise computing and mobility solutions. Worldwide, businesses and government officials with carefully planned strategies are realizing rapid, high ROIs from their handheld computing devices.

"Too many times, companies wake up from PDA ignorance after it is too late. Once each of your employees have become comfortable with their PDA choice among the myriad of different handheld computing solutions, the last thing they want to do is change devices because it is convenient for their company. The later corporations move to determine the most appropriate handheld computing strategy, the worse off they are!" says Rich Tehrani, TMCTM President,

Perhaps most troubling are the companies that have not yet embraced a handheld computing strategy. Handheld computers unlike personal computers are infiltrating corporations from the bottom up with limited MIS or other corporate involvement. This becomes a problem for corporations when they realize they must now support devices from a large group of manufacturers and worse, support expansion jackets and storage slots of every conceivable type such as SD, CF, PC, Memory Stick, and others.

According to Marc Robins, TMC Vice President and Group Editorial Director, "It's been estimated that the enterprise TCO for each PDA is as much as $2,500 per year, as you must also include the cost of providing support, network connectivity, replacement units, training, and necessary software applications. By embracing centrally managed mobile infrastructure software, and by enforcing policy management and automatic "healing" tools, TCO can be significantly reduced."

The newest and most advanced handheld computing solutions will be on display at "Planet PDA - The 2nd Global Summit On Enterprise and Custom Volume Handheld Computing Solution." The event will be held on May 13-16, 2002 at the Boston World Trade Center.

Planet PDA provides a first-class learning forum for anyone involved in implementing handheld devices into the enterprise. Don't miss this chance to compare the TCO for a variety of portable computing devices, including PDAs, tablet PCs, ultra-portable notebooks, and laptops.
