NetApp Salutes Customer Phil Nail, Winner of InfoWorld 2007 CTO 25 Award

SUNNYVALE, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP) customer Phil Nail, chief technology officer at AISO.Net, was honored this week with the InfoWorld 2007 CTO 25 Award. The annual award recognizes the top 25 executives who have demonstrated leadership within their companies and the IT community.

Nail and the AISO.Net team run a "green" Web-hosting business, serving more than 15,000 clients worldwide. AISO.Net's data center relies exclusively on "clean energy" through power generated by solar panels to run its mission-critical operations.

In 2006, Nail found that the demands of his service were making it increasingly difficult to maintain operations using strictly solar power. Nail teamed with NetApp, Sirius Computer Solutions, and select server and infrastructure vendors to design and implement a new data center that AISO.Net expects will reduce energy consumption by more than 80%, while at the same time increase system redundancy and maximize scalability for its clients. The successful venture with NetApp and its partners maintained AISO.Net's corporate mission to create an environmentally friendly hosting infrastructure without compromising technological demands.

"This year's CTO 25 Award winners are true visionaries who believe that leading-edge technology equals leading-edge business," said Steve Fox, InfoWorld editor-in-chief. "Their constant invention and reinvention of strategic tools, coupled with an eagle eye for business opportunity, provide a blueprint for IT success."

As part of the new AISO.Net data center infrastructure, NetApp(R) data management technology was deployed to help maximize storage efficiency. The NetApp approach was to halt AISO.Net power growth at its source by reducing raw storage requirements and enabling AISO.Net to do more with the storage systems already in its IT environment. AISO.Net took advantage of NetApp technology to subtract machines and disks, reduce the company's overall data center footprint, and maximize storage utilization, achieving not only greater power efficiency but also lower infrastructure complexity and costs.

"Phil Nail is a pioneer, providing one of the few, truly 'green' Web-hosting environments in the world," said Elisa Steele, vice president, Corporate Marketing at NetApp. "Nail recognized, before being green was ever a buzzword, that respecting the environment, while still providing a world-class service to his customers, could be a reality. We are honored to be a part of AISO.Net's energy-efficient data center infrastructure. We look forward to helping more customers deploy practical methods to decrease energy usage and realize that power efficiency is not only good for the planet, but also good for business."
