Momentum Grows for Bright House Networks Bright Ideas STEM from Today's Youth Competition

ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 26, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Communities throughout Bright House Networks service areas are championing its Bright Ideas STEM from Today's Youth, a multi-state competition where high school students dream up the coolest inventions to make their own life, community or even the world, more awesome… and show how STEM – that's science, technology, engineering and math, can bring their idea to life. Bright House Networks is pleased to announce that it currently has more than 120 Community Friends of STEM on board to help support the second year of its Bright Ideas program, which cultivates the changes our local youth can inspire and encourages their creativity to develop new ideas.

Bright House Networks Community Friends of STEM lend their support for and help promote the contest, and foster school and student participation. The list of Friends includes businesses and nonprofits throughout Bright House Networks service areas who work directly with the company to engage student innovators and encourage them to submit their Bright Ideas. (A full list of Community Friends of STEM is detailed in the below addendum.)

Entries for Bright Ideas STEM from Today's Youth are being accepted through January 4, 2016 at the program's website, www.brighthouse.com/brightideas.

The competition is open to all high school students who are at least 14 years old as of the date of entry and who attend a public, private, parochial school, or are home-schooled within a Bright House Networks service area. Students will be able to compete as individuals or as part of a team of two.  Six lucky finalists will be chosen, one from each of Bright House Networks service areas. These students will travel to Orlando, Fla., where they will compete head-to-head on TV, in front of a studio audience and a panel of experts. One lucky Grand Prize Winner will be selected and will have the opportunity to work with a leading innovation firm to build a virtual prototype and a business plan.

"We are thrilled with the overwhelming community support we have received for our Bright Ideas STEM from Today's Youth program," said Kimberly Maki, corporate vice president, corporate communications and public relations, Bright House Networks. "Our Friends help to raise awareness about STEM's critical role in educating our youth for tomorrow, and we are appreciative of all who have signed on so far for the second year of this program."

Bright House Networks welcomes additional local businesses, nonprofits or individuals who have an education, entrepreneurship or innovation background to become a Friend of STEM.
