Kapsch to implement next generation signaling network based on Sonus Networks' technology in the US and Europe

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 26 September 2014 Release date- 25092014 - Vienna/Brussels-Kapsch CarrierCom today announced it has been commissioned by BICS (Belgacom International Carrier Services) with the deployment and maintenance of a signaling network to carry BICS' international traffic.

The Belgian company delivers international wholesale solutions to providers of telecommunication services and connects more than 500 carriers worldwide. Kapsch will integrate two new major systems in the global network: one in the US and one in Europe. The contract includes the integration of Sonus STPs (Signaling Transfer Points) and Kapsch MSU (Message Signal Unit) accounting system into the BICS network delivering a 24/7 support for this critical service.

Latest Technology The signaling solution will be based on Sonus Diameter Signaling Controller DSC8000, which supports both SS7 (Signaling System 7) and Diameter signaling on the same micro TCA (Telecom Computer Architecture) chassis. This solution leverages the current status of today's telecommunications signaling network that can be described by two important characteristics: the maturity of the SS7 network and the evolution from SS7 signaling to Diameter signaling, each providing benefits and challenges. The Sonus DSC8000 addresses these challenges, by providing solutions to the legacy SS7 network and an evolutionary path to the Next Generation LTE/EPC Diameter network. In addition the MSU accounting system will be developed by Kapsch to allow the invoicing of the signaling traffic. Kapsch will integrate the complete solution into the BICS network in the US (New York) and in Europe (Belgium) and deliver a 24/7 support.

'International wholesale forms a significant portion of BICS' business. We are very glad that we were selected to integrate such a business critical service like signaling. Kapsch has proven its expertise in lots of different projects with carriers. We've been engaged with state-of-the-art solutions for carriers for many years. This has paid off in the selection process,' says Thomas Schopf, COO of Kapsch CarrierCom.

'With new technologies like LTE and the increasing use of social networks and M2M solutions the requirements for signaling are changing. Kapsch and Sonus convinced us that their services can support us to fulfill them,' explains Geert Goethals, CTO BICS. 'The entire solution has to ensure business continuity for international signaling and cope with high expected growth rates in this area.' 'The opportunity to provide our DSC8000 signaling platform with our partner Kapsch to BICS is an important step in displaying Sonus signaling evolution proof approach with the DSC8000,' said Mike Swade, Sonus SVP World Wide Sales and Marketing. 'As demand for 4G services and Voice over LTE grows, wholesale carriers such as BICS have a unique opportunity to provide a valuable service to their operator customers by ensuring that 4G/LTE communications move seamlessly between networks. By leveraging Sonus' DSC8000 it will give BICS the unsurpassed ability to evolve from SS7 to Diameter signal control as needed.'
