Wireless Hall of Fame Welcomes Four Inductees at Las Vegas Awards Celebration


LAS VEGAS --(Business Wire)--

Wireless pioneers and innovators from all areas of the industry welcomed four individuals to the Wireless Hall of Fame. Over 250 gathered at the Four Seasons Las Vegas to honor the 2014 inductees.

This year's honorees were: Rob Conway (posthumous), Bill Carlson, Jan Uddenfeldt and Sam Ginn.

FCC Chairman and Wireless Hall of Fame member Tom Wheeler introduced Conway as a man with a world vision for wireless communication. Conway, Industry Associate Honoree, passed away in early 2014. Acceptin on Rob's behalf was his son, Jason Conway. Rob served as CEO of the GSMA until 2011 and led the GSMA's Mobile World Congress (News - Alert).



Carlson, Pioneer Honoree, is owner of Tower Systems Inc. which operates in over 28 countries. A pioneer in tower safety, he served on the board of the National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE). His award was presented by Tower Systems COO and daughter, Kari Carlson.

Ericsson President and CEO Angel Ruiz (News - Alert) presented the award to Technology Honoree, Jan Uddenfeldt. With Ericsson since 1978, Dr. Uddenfeldt pioneered work in the development of LTE. He also served as CTO and Corporate VP at Sony Ericsson (News - Alert), now Sony Mobile.


Ginn, Service Provider Honoree, was presented his award by Lowell McAdam, Chairman and CEO of Verizon Communications. Ginn served as Chairman and CEO of Pacific Telesis, AirTouch and eventually of Vodafone (News - Alert) AirTouch. In 2012 he became initial Chairman of FirstNet.

"This evening highlighted several aspect of wireless. From towers, to technology, to service providers on a global stage, tonight the Wireless Hall of Fame recognized their importance to the industry," said WHF Board member Rob Mechaley, CEO of Mobilesphere Holdings LLC, and chairman of the 2014 selection committee.
