Rate of IT Employment Growth Slows in August

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- While IT employment continued to grow in August marking the 24th consecutive month of gains, the rate of growth has decelerated.

The number of IT jobs grew 0.15 percent sequentially last month to 4,504,000, according to TechServe Alliance, a collaboration of IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions firms, clients, consultants and suppliers. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment has grown by 5.92% since July 2012 adding 251,900 IT workers.

"Despite the deceleration in the rate of growth, the future for IT employment still remains bright," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "While the deceleration is no doubt attributable to multiple factors, an inadequate supply of qualified IT talent remains a key reason. Even the Fed noted the impact of the shortage of IT talent with regard to New England region in its most recently released Beige Book," added Roberts.
