Maker Week highlights include: -- Hardware Innovation Workshop -- May 14 & 15 at the College of San Mateo The Hardware Innovation Workshop is designed for makers in business trying to figure out how to navigate the ecosystem -- from fundraising to strategic partners to manufacturing options. This MAKE event also shines the spotlight on the most interesting and innovative tools and technology, platforms and projects, and devices and designs based on open hardware. A prelude to the broader topics of the Hardware Innovation Workshop which cover all aspects of the maker business ecosystem, the workshop is presented and hosted by Bunnie Huang, a maker's maker. Bunnie is co-founder of Chumby and an authority on manufacturing and getting products to market. He will lead a panel discussion that will focus on the mindset and documentation needed to enter the world of professional contract manufacturing. Artisan's Asylum and MAKE are holding an intensive one-day workshop bringing organizers from some of the leading makerspaces across the country to share their experiences and answer your questions. Over the course of the day they will discuss business models, permitting and insurance, community-building and the particular challenges of incorporating education and/or business incubation into a maker's mission. This won't be a spectator's event: attendees must be prepared to tell their story, ask questions, look at numbers, and make decisions.
