BRIEF: Fake bomb put B.G. police on alert Tuesday

BOWLING GREEN, May 01, 2013 (The Blade - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The suspicious package that closed a street in Bowling Green for more than 3 1/2 hours Tuesday was a fake bomb, authorities said today.

The package, which was found outside about 2:20 p.m. in the 500 block of North Enterprise Street, was a 2-litre bottle with batteries and an electric motor attached to it, "making the devise appear to be a bomb," Bowling Green police Lt. Daniel Mancuso said.

A short time later, the Toledo Police Department's bomb squad arrived, evaluated the devise, and used a robot to take it apart, Lt. Mancuso said.

"From what we could tell, there was nothing explosive in it, " Lt. Mancuso said. "It was designed to appear to be a bomb." The incident remained under investigation. Police had no suspects as of Wednesday morning, the lieutenant said.
