Mobile Entertainment Forum,"MEF (News - Alert)" North America has launcheda new mobile commerce initiative called M-commerce.

This is aimed primarily at content producers and retailers in an effort to make them understand how to get the best out of the mobile phone, and how to get new customers, while retaining the existing ones.

In an effort to diversify and simplify the mobile commerce landscape, MEF has decided to produce and educational and informative Webinar and an M-commerce guide to educate all concerned about the best practices, benefits and case studies.

"There is no more timely and definitive resource," Gary Schwartz, CEO of Impact Mobile and Vice Chairman of MEF North America., said, and added that across the U.S., brands, retailers, and content owners were exploring ways to effectively reach their mobile shopper.

Additionally, the MEF M-Commerce Guide will help these stakeholders to identify ways to drive revenue on the phone or via the phone. This resource will be a good first step to simplify the myriad of options in-market.

Because of M-Commerce Services, businesses can now handle an extremely large volume of low cost sales. While the sale of ringtones, music tracks, and games, did bring in revenue, micro-payments in the form of car parking revenues and purchase of cinema tickets were also recorded.

Additionally, mobile is beginning to impact commerce at bricks-and-mortar POS through incentive and m-couponing programs, driving sales and customer retention.

"M-Commerce is a global opportunity and MEF's initiative shows how the mobile connected device can be leveraged to effectively enable all types of commerce - not just for services and content consumed on the device but also for the purchase of physical products and services," Suhail Bhat,  Policies and Initiatives director for MEF, said.
