Dialog Semiconductor's Demos SmartXtend drivers ICs at FPD Exhibition

(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
Dialog Semiconductor, a provider of high integrated Power Management
Semiconductor solutions announced that its SmartXtend technology based
driver ICs will be used by TDK as part of its PMOLED video display
demonstration using a 3inch W-QVGA panel at the FPD International
exhibition in Yokohama-city, Japan, which runs through October 31.

According to the company, the displays are targeted as a next
generation solution for main displays in mobile phone and portable
media consumer devices, overcoming the performance limitations of LCD
and the slow to be adopted more expensive active matrix OLED displays.

SmartXtend technology allows the main displays of mobile devices -
particularly those offering W-QVGA and QVGA resolution - to utilize
passive matrix OLED displays rather than LCD or active matrix OLEDs.
Passive matrix OLEDs are inherently a lower cost display to manufacture
than other display technologies while providing advantages in terms of
video quality, viewing angle and performance, the company said.

Dialog Semiconductor's Manoj Thanigasalam, VP & GM of Dialog's displays

system business unit says, 'We are delighted that TDK will demonstrate
W-QVGA panels using Dialog's first SmartXtend based driver IC at the
FPD show, which clearly proves the quality and advantages which our
SmartXtend technology brings to passive matrix OLED displays. We are
currently developing a family of driver ICs with our partners for
volume production in 2H 2009.'
