TMCnet Contributing Editor

Mellanox (News - Alert) Technologies, Ltd., a supplier of semiconductor-based, server and storage interconnect products, announced today that its integrating its 20Gb/s InfiniBand adapters and switch product technology for the unified I/O fabric in the HP BladeSystem for Oracle (News - Alert) Optimized Warehouse.

The BladeSystem is designed by HP, a company that provides technology solutions to consumers, businesses and institutions globally. HP BladeSystem is developed to share components between enclosures, making it fast and easy to create, customize and grow, according to the company. A blade system is an all-in-one computing infrastructure in a box built for small sites, company officials say.

The HP 4X DDR IB Mezzanine HCA, based on Mellanox technology, provides the high-performance link for server-to-server and server-to-storage I/O connectivity through an integrated Mellanox-based HP 4X DDR IB Switch Module, company officials say.

“The combination of HP BladeSystem with Mellanox InfiniBand interconnect technology provides the leading performance in our Oracle Optimized Warehouse offering,” said Jim Ganthier, a marketing director at HP.

Mellanox is widely recognized in the industry for being the first to offer 10Gb/s and 20Gb/s silicon adapters, 30Gb/s and 60 Gb/s switches and the first to deliver integrated physical layers (SerDes) in an InfiniBand semiconductor, company officials say.

Mellanox technology, when adopted in HP BladeSystem, delivers Oracle Optimized Warehouse, according to the company. The platform expands InfiniBand into mainstream data center business applications for mission-critical, day-to-day tasks, and demonstrates the efficiency of InfiniBand interconnect to consolidate I/O traffic, company officials say.

“Enterprises today require high server-to-server and server-to-storage bandwidth and low latency to fuel their increased reliance on compute intensive Oracle data warehouse applications such as inventory tracking, data mining, and business intelligence tools,” said Thad Omura, vice president of product marketing at Mellanox.

Omura added, “The Mellanox-based InfiniBand technology in the HP BladeSystem for Oracle Optimized Warehouse offers organizations exceptional scalability, flexibility, and consistent leading-edge I/O bandwidth throughput to enable faster complex analysis for time-critical, business decision making – all in a simple, easy to deploy, turnkey solution.”
