TMCNet: Ray Bryant Named Chairman of the Board for Power.org

[May 26, 2008]

Ray Bryant Named Chairman of the Board for Power.org

(Wireless News Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
Power.org, the open organization that develops and promotes Power
Architecture technology, announced that industry expert Ray Bryant has
been named Chairman of the Board.

Power.org noted that Bryant is respected within the Power Architecture
community for his technical and market experience working with Power
Architecture cores and systems-on-a-chip (SoCs) at IBM. Power.org also
welcomed three new corporate members to the organization, CoWare,
Curtiss-Wright Corp., and Green Hills Software.

"The Power Architecture technology platform is growing faster than ever
and across a growing breadth of markets and applications," said Bryant.
"This growth is driven in part by Power.org, whose work in creating
technology standards is making the Power Architecture platform simpler
to connect to and easier to use. Power.org's standards-setting
activities continue to attract more and more companies, which in turn
accelerates the rate of progress we can make."

The Power Architecture processing platform grew at a significantly
higher rate than comparable embedded processor architectures and is
positioned to grow faster than the industry average through 2011,
according to a custom research report commissioned by Power.org from
IDC. The report finds Power Architecture chips and shipments exceeded
industry averages by 20 percent and 12 percent respectively and is
expected to continue at 13.8 percent CAGR in embedded processors unit
shipments and 10.4 percent CAGR in revenue through 2011.

Power Architecture technology is especially well adapted to deal with
changes in the market and to business priorities. The ecosystem
supports a wide range of flexible solutions from licensable cores to
standard products. Reference platforms and full product designs can be
selectively pulled in and adapted to specific applications. Versatility
and a strong systems orientation are hallmarks of the architecture as
seen in the community-centered business model and the organization that
has developed around it, Power.org.

Bryant is the director of Games and Power Solutions within the
Microelectronics Brand in IBM's Systems and Technology Group. He joined
IBM in 1980 and has held a variety of positions across the
Microelectronics Division and the Technology Group in IBM, including

manager of Process Development, manager of System Quality Assurance,
Design/Groundrules Manager, director of Worldwide Packaging
Applications, and director of Emerging Product and Foundry Sales.

In early 2006, Bryant was named director of Asia Pacific Delivery for
IBM Global Engineering Solutions, where he was responsible for the
chip, system, and software design and development teams in Japan,
China, and India. Prior to that, he was responsible for business
management of IBM's 4xx/7xx/9xx product families and the design of
embedded 4xx processors as director of PowerPC products. Bryant also
worked as director of consumer applications in Tokyo, where he
developed digital media business for the semiconductor products OEM
brand within IBM's Systems and Technology Group.

The Power.org said that its ecosystem continues to grow, with the
newest members CoWare, Curtiss-Wright Corp. and Green Hills Software
bringing valuable expertise and perspective to the organization.

The open Power.org community, formed in 2005, is the organization
creating technical standards and community-building programs to
simplify the process of designing products with Power Architecture
processors.
